Discover how Rickshaws are sparking curiosity in unexpected places, like tech-driven San Francisco, and learn about the exciting chance to experience one yourself at XDAY 2024 in Austin, Texas.
The global fascination with Rickshaws – a type of transport originating from India – has grown in recent years. It reached its peak in popularity when “Brangelina” (the name the media gave to the Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) decided to have an adventure in their own Rickshaw through the streets of Mumbai with one of their children in the back in 2006.
The trend really took off when celebrities like Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jenson Button had their own Rickshaw rides. In India, people often underestimate and undervalue these vehicles.
Auto-rickshaws, as they are called in India or Tuk-Tuks in Southeast Asia, have been one of my passions since we were kids. A few years ago, we at QuestionPro decided to import a Rickshaw from India and figure out how to legally drive it through the streets of San Francisco. We had a lot of fun in the process. I’ll never stop appreciating these compact but wonderful pieces of art.
In the age of Tesla and Google’s self-driving cars, we want to take a spin in our Rickshaw to turn heads and spark interest in the diverse ideas from around the world.
Not long ago, I parked the Rickshaw near a Ducati store (I needed to buy a helmet), when one of the employees came up, took a photo of it, looked at me, and said:
“You know what I love about you guys from India? I love the fact that you bring all these cool things to us!”
That really made my day!
